How Does the High?Latitude Thermal Forcing in One Hemisphere Affect the Other Hemisphere?

چکیده
Significant progress has been made in our understanding of extratropical impacts on the tropical climate via energetics framework. It is question whether impact thermal forcing one hemisphere would extend far into high-latitudes other hemisphere. We examine possibility pole-to-pole linkage atmospheric teleconnections by imposing a cyclic surface northern extratropics an aquaplanet slab ocean model. reveal synchronous temperature response between two poles mediated zonal-mean dynamics. A warming polar region leads to strengthened Hadley circulation unforced hemisphere, fluxing more momentum toward subtropics, thereby pulling eddy-driven jet equatorward. consequent anomalous descent over causes warming. The reaches 30% that forced inferring significance connection.

Solar forcing of winter climate variability in the Northern Hemisphere
An influence of solar irradiance variations on Earth’s surface climate has been repeatedly suggested, based on correlations between solar variability and meteorological variables1. Specifically, weaker westerly winds have been observed in winters with a less active sun, for example at the minimum phase of the 11-year sunspot cycle2–4. With some possible exceptions5,6, it has proved difficult fo...
متن کاملDoes each hemisphere monitor the ongoing process in the contralateral one?
The present study was conducted to examine hemispheric division of labor in the initial processing and error monitoring in tasks for which hemispheric specialization exists. We used lexical decision as a left hemisphere task and bargraph judgment as a right hemisphere task, and manipulated cognitive load. Participants had to respond to one of two stimuli presented to both visual fields and were...
متن کاملANTARES and other Neutrino Telescopes in the Northern Hemisphere
Several projects are concentrating their efforts on opening the high energy neutrino window on the Universe with km-scale detectors. The detection principle relies on the observation, using photomultipliers, of the Cherenkov light emitted by charged leptons induced by neutrino interactions in the surrounding detector medium. In the Northern hemisphere, while the pioneering Baikal telescope, has...
متن کاملResponse: Commentary: Energetic particle forcing of the Northern Hemisphere winter stratosphere: comparison to solar irradiance forcing
We would like to thank the authors of the commentary [1] for pointing out the error in the analysis of the early winter months (Oct–Dec) in our article. We find that this is indeed correct, and wish to apologize for such an error in our analysis. After correcting the error we have been able to reproduce Figure 1 from the commentary. We wish to point out that we have checked that this issue has ...
